BELLEVUE, Wash., Oct. 25, 2005 -- Bellevue elementary, middle school, and high school students can now participate in a variety of classroom programs that might not otherwise be available to them, thanks to funding from the Bellevue Schools Foundation (BSF).

For Fall 2005, BSF awarded 80 grants totaling $60,294 to schools throughout the Bellevue School District. Just a few of the dozens of projects funded through BSF's classroom grants include:

  • Third Grade Geology Adventure
  • Oceanography Experience
  • Mt. St Helens 5th Grade Overnight Adventure
  • Drawing: Connections to Learning
  • Young Poet's Program
  • Parent/Child Book Club
  • Toymaker Workshop with Rick Hartman
  • Listen While They Read: Connecting Struggling Readers to Good Books
  • Computer Visual Arts Classes
  • Physics II Supplements: Relativity & Quantum Theory
  • Portable Oral Language Lab
  • Tools to Make Education Accessible to Students with Special Needs

The Classroom Grants Program is an important part of BSF's funding, and is one of several initiatives supported by the BSF as part of its mission of providing the best possible learning opportunities for all students in the Bellevue School District. The Foundation awards grants to BSD teachers and staff every year as part of its ongoing support of Bellevue schools. The BSF works closely with schools and the district to identify, select and fund existing and new programs that benefit thousands of students.

About the Bellevue Schools Foundation (BSF)
The Bellevue School Foundation is a powerful partnership between business and community leaders, parents and members of the education community. BSF was created in 1979 by a concerned group of parents and community leaders, who wanted to ensure quality education for Bellevue's children despite unreliable state funding for school districts. Its mission remains consistent: to promote and help fund the best possible learning opportunities for all students of Bellevue Public Schools. During its 25-year history, the BSF has raised over $10 million for programs that reach over 16,000 students every year.

As a private, non-profit organization, the BSF depends on individual, foundation, and corporate donors in order to fund its school programs. In partnership with the Bellevue School District, the Parent-Teacher Associations, the Bellevue Chamber of Commerce and school educators and administrators, the Bellevue Schools Foundation helps Bellevue's public school students achieve academic excellence.
